Emily Hiestand is a writer and visual artist. Her books include The Very Rich Hours: Travels in Orkney, Belize, the Everglades, and Greece; Angela the Upside-Down Girl, true stories about identity and place; and Green the Witch Hazel Wood. Her writing has appeared in the Atlantic Monthly, the Georgia Review, the New Yorker, The Nation, and Salon, and in Best American Poetry and many other anthologies. Her awards include the Whiting Award, the Pushcart Prize, the National Poetry Series Award, and the National Magazine Award. She is married to the musician and writer Peter Niels Dunn.
