A brink is a verge, a threshold, with an element of risk; the edge of a steep place; the end of land bordering a body of water, as a river, lake, or sea. If one walks out to the tip of the Hopi village Walpi on First Mesa, one stands at a brink: on a clear day, when the vast expanse stretches for miles, one can look south and glimpse the San Francisco Peaks in the far distance. The Brink on the Sevier Plateau in Utah provides another such threshold.
