The spillway or overflow of a dam, a flooded river, a dry streambed that carries water during intense rainfall, or even an overfilled dump is described by this term, derramadero, which derives from the Spanish verb derramar, meaning “to spill, pour, scatter,” or most picturesquely when used with sangre, “to shed blood,” as in derramar su sangre por la nación.
