Rincón is Spanish for corner. In the southwestern United States and throughout Mexico the word often refers to land or properties that are “at the end of the road” or “on the south end of el rancho.” It can also mean the corner of a pasture, or “my little piece of land.” Rinconada means “the corner place.” Hamlets located at the end of a road or at the far side of a ranch are sometimes named Rincón, as in Rincón, Texas, in the lower Rio Grande valley.
